Today’s betting tip can be applied to the horses as well as football betting – so read on if you want to win more money!

Today’s betting tip is an absolute beauty that I can’t see changing any time soon. And it applies to horseracing as well as football betting. What more could you ask for!

Basically, this piece of advice gives you an insight into the competitive world of online bookmaking. It’s a mature, cut-throat market where – occasionally – there’s a price war going on.

Price wars inevitably benefit consumers. But the bookies are wary of being stung by shrewdies and cunning punters – so they really limit the times when they extend their rare generosity.

When they do, that’s when it’s time to steam in with your cash.

Betting tip #4: wait until Saturday morning
You may not have noticed, but there’s a short period on a Saturday morning where, across the board, bookies will lengthen their prices. Not by much – a 1/3 shot will be eased to 4/9 or something similar – but enough to make it worth waiting until Saturday morning to place your bets.

The reason is simple. There’s a whole lot of punters out there on a Saturday, and the bookies are fighting to get their business. So they bring in their margins, accepting that it’s better to win a little bit of money off a lot of people than a lot of money off a few people.

They’re especially generous on England’s Big Four and the top two clubs in Scotland and Spain. Basically, they know that a lot of accumulators are based around Arsenal, Barca, Celtic, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U, Rangers and Real Madrid. But it’s a rare week where all eight of them win.

If you’re a bookie, you can tempt the punters with a few juicy prices and you’ll probably scoop the lot.

Of course, if you follow our tips, you won’t be backing such extravagant accas. But the overall theory extends throughout the coupon. Price up a few games this Friday, and check their odds again on Saturday morning, if you don’t believe me.

This also happens in racing, where there’s a similar battle to get the punter’s cash. Although don’t expect to see it on minor sports like Rugby League where there isn’t the same pot of gold on offer for the bookies.

And as the day goes on, you’ll find the best odds disappear as the layers mount up liabilities and adjust their books to cover any potential losses.

The equivalent of this when it comes to World Cup betting will probably be Friday, 11 June – the first day of the World Cup. This tournament is expected to be the biggest betting event ever, so the scramble for your cash will be huge. Expect massive prices on South Africa v Mexico and Uruguay v France – and then again, wait until Saturday, 12 June, to bet on England v USA, which will be another betting bonanza.

Until then, if you’re betting on football, and you want to win more money, then Saturday morning is the time to do it!

The favourite wants opposing in this year’s St Leger Stakes – and we’ve got a 7/1 betting tip that can take it on.

Our St Leger betting tip is a 7/1 chance that can take on an uneasy favourite in this year’s renewal of the oldest Classic in the racing calendar, which will be run at Doncaster this Saturday, 12th September.

Godolphin’s Kite Wood heads the betting at odds of between 2/1 and 5/2 but is on the drift. And, given some poor performances in big races so far this season, punters are right to shun Frankie Dettori’s mount.

The Italian won last year on board Conduit – as tipped here at A Cunning Punt – and Kite Wood looks like a stayer. But I’m not convinced he’ll have the pace to beat one or two in this field.

Aidan O’Brien saddles his usual armada of runners, and will be hoping Age Of Aquarius can give him some reward from an unusually lean Classic season. At 11/4 it looks better value than the Godolphin runner.

But the real value could be in a late entrant. Peter Chapple-Hyam’s Monitor Closely threw up a shock in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York in August when it destroyed the field – which included the St Leger favourite of the time, Harbinger – in winning by four-and-a-half lengths.

Monitor Closely has already beaten Kite Wood once this year over ten furlongs in the Dante Stakes. The positions were reversed when the two met as two-year-olds when Kite Wood got its maiden (and before he joined Godolphin). But I think the horse can improve on the Dante positions when they go head-to-head over 14 furlongs, and while I wouldn’t rule out the O’Brien yard, the 7/1 available at William Hilllooks well worth getting on each-way in this year’s St Leger.

King Kieren’s return to Group 1 action at Haydock can be spoiled by Finjaan, Marcus Tregonning’s back-to-form three-year-old.

Kieren Fallon returns to Group 1 action at Haydock on Saturday in the Betfred Sprint Cup (the 3.30 at Haydock on Saturday 5th September) – but our betting tip for the occasion is to swerve the multiple champion jockey in favour of Richard Hills on board Marcus Tregonning’s Finjaan.

On firm ground on a dry day this race would look in the bag for Fleeting Spirit, but Haydock may be too soft after recent rain. And two disappointments since winning the Golden Jubilee Stakes tends to rule out Art Connoisseur.

Sir Michael Stoute’s Main Aim heads Finjaan in the betting, which seems a little bizarre as our betting tip beat Ryan Moore’s mount by eight lengths at Goodwood last time out on similar going. Such is the draw of the Stoute-Moore combination to less-than-cunning punters.

But the main draw for this race is undoubtedly Kieren Fallon on board market favourite High Standing. A good horse, no doubt, but you may feel this race is a little beyond him and the addition of a possibly ring-rusty Fallon has artificially shortened his price. We want something with a bit more value.

In this respect Finjaan looks a good odds selection at 11/2, which is available at Bet365 and BlueSquare at the time of writing. (Get on quickly as these odds are often shortened between us going to press and the off as everyone else starts thinking along our lines!).

Two points win looks good value for Finjaan as our Betfred Sprint Cup betting tip.

Frankie Dettori and Godolphin can strike on board the unlucky Delegator in the Celebration Mile at Goodwood on Saturday 29th August

Delegator goes into Saturday’s Celebration Mile at Goodwood with even money odds available about him. And that must be a cracking bet on the Godolphin colt, who must qualify as the unluckiest horse of the 2009 flat racing season.

After winning the Craven Stakes impressively, Delegator was favourite to win the 2,000 Guineas in May – but came up against the undoubted superstar of the season in Sea The Stars. As we all know, John Oxx’s colt demolished the field, with Delegator, then trained by Brian Meehan, beaten by one-and-a-half lengths but still a creditable second.

The Irish 2,000 Guineas was run over heavy ground and Delegator’s performance is best forgotten. But back on good-to-firm at Royal Ascot in the St James’s Palace Stakes Delegator put up a fantastic performance to almost pip the odds-on favourite Mastercraftsman.

Since then the colt has switched to Godolphin and will be ridden by Frankie Dettori on Saturday. And in a seven-horse field there doesn’t seem to be anything that can beat him.

Sir Michael Stoute’s Zacinto is an improving course-and-distance winner but is difficult to back at best odds of 7/4. It looks a step up in class for the rest of the field, which includes two eight-year-olds.

With this in mind there seems little doubt that Delegator will go off as odds-on favourite and so the even money quoted by several firms should be snapped up while it’s available. Try Bet365, the Tote, BlueSquare, Stan James or SkyBet (with a £10 Free Matched Bet for new customers) for starters.
