What does the fate of the favourite tell us?
The most successful betting favourites on the flat at Ascot are those racing in non-handicaps for three-year-olds and upwards. This is consistent with the fate of the favourite generally.

Overall, however, favourites do not fare well at Ascot. However, many of the races – especially at the Royal meeting – are well covered in the racing press and elsewhere (here at A Cunning Punt, for example. Therefore, punters should be able to make an informed betting decision and there should be no need to resort to simple statistics on backing favourites.
