Sariska in line for Oaks glory
By Angus | June 3, 2009
Sariska, the Michael Bell-trained filly, has all the hallmarks of a Classic winner – and looks the best bet for my money for this Friday’s Investec Oaks from Epsom.
She was last seen winning York’s Musidora Stakes, which puts her right in the frame for the Oaks. And punters have pushed her right to the top of the Oaks betting odds, ahead of 1,000 Guineas disappointment Rainbow View and Henry Cecil’s well-backed Midday.
The Musidora is a couple of furlongs short of Oaks distance, but trainer Michael Bell is more than confident of Sariska’s staying ability – she has staying power in her bloodline, as he told Sporting Life.
I won’t be going near Rainbow View with a barge pole, but Midday has to be respected given Henry Cecil’s formidable record in the race and her Lingfield Oaks trial win.
Midday can be backed at 7/2 generally but the market makes Sariska the betting favourite – as short as 9/4 in some places. I think the market’s right in this case, and odds of 11/4 are available at Sportingbet – which is where my money’s going.
Selection
- 4 points win Sariska (11/4, Sportingbet) to win the 2009 Investec Oaks
