Get Tax Free Winnings in the Duke of York
By Angus | May 12, 2009
DANDY NICHOLLS has a first-rate record at York’s Knavesmire racecourse – and that makes the 13/2 on offer on Tax Free too good to ignore in Wednesday’s Blue Square Duke of York Stakes.
Nicholls, an acknowledged master at training sprinters, has an affinity with Yorkshire racecourses that shouldn’t be passed over. More than one-third (193) of his 527 career wins (to date) have come at Catterick, Thirsk, York, Ponte Carlo, Beverley, Doncaster or Ripon.
And one of those wins was with Tax Free, back in 2005’s Ebor Festival, with Adrian Nicholls on board (Nicholls’ son, the same jockey who will saddle the horse tomorrow).
Equiano is the highest-rated horse going into this Group 2 contest – but doesn’t have the proven form on the Knavesmire that Tax Free brings.
Six-and-a-half to one makes it tempting to go each-way on the Nicholls’ horse, but I think a small bet on Tax Free to win represents better value. I’m going two points on the nose.
Selection
- 2 points each-way Tax Free (13/2, Bet365) to win the Duke of York Stakes

I see the 13/2 has all gone since Angus wrote this and Tax Free is now vying for favouritism with Equiano. 6/1 is still available at Blue Square and Will Hill although it’s 5/1 generally. Get on quick!
