“Unbelievable” value in Liverpool v Arsenal online betting
By Bernie | April 20, 2009
UNBELIEVABLE, as one of their most famous ex-players would put it. But there are some absolutely amazing odds on offer for people wanting to bet on Liverpool in Tuesday night’s crunch Premier League football match against Arsenal at Anfield.
The Reds look massive odds at 5/6 to beat the Gunners – but I can’t see any other result for this one.
Betting on a team to lose rather than backing one to win is rarely good betting practice, but I have to make an exception in this case. Arsenal just don’t look good enough to win at Liverpool on current form.
Defeat on an energy-sapping pitch to Chelsea followed a tough run of fixtures that would have stretched their squad to the brink – if they had a big squad to stretch.
As it is, they’re likely to rest either players or minds ahead of a tough series of games against Manchester United – with particular focus being saved for their Champions League semi-final.
With fourth place in the Premier League virtually assured – and being the best they can hope for – expenditure of effort for a meaningless cause is the last thing they’re likely to want.
Liverpool, however, are a different kettle of fish. Champions League defeat meant they only have the League to play for – and simply must beat Arsenal if they are to keep up the pressure on the faltering Man U.
Home advantage means they won’t be able to rest until the match is won – which it could comfortably be well before the 90 minutes are up.
The Reds could batter the Gunners at Anfield – and it’s also tempting to look at Sporting Index’s Liverpool supremacy market, which sets its spread at 0.7-0.9 to Liverpool.
At under one goal it must be a buy, but the margins aren’t for the faint-hearted, which prompts us to look at the fixed-odds markets elsewhere.
Blue Square are offering the 5/6 and I can only see that shortening as we approach the game. It should be snapped up now by anyone who wants to bet on Liverpool.
