Spread betting can give fairer profits
By Matt | December 9, 2008
SPREAD BETTING gets a bad press – largely because of those frightening health warnings about risk and loss that accompany every advert.
But I’ve been dabbling in sports spread betting a fair bit over the last couple of months – and I reckon it’s a fairer way of betting in a lot of ways.
Yes, there’s the potential to lose a lot of money – but there is with all gambling. And most of the bets I’ve placed, despite having the potential to lose me a three-figure sum, have rarely lost me as much as a one-er.
In actual fact, rather than doing my brains I’ve actually done pretty well – and with bets that I would probably have lost with a traditional punt.
When England beat Kazakhstan 5-1, for example – a scoreline that would have had most correct score betting slips torn up and would have paid a paltry odds-on sum to singles match result backers, returned a tidy sum.
Just weeks before I’d lost a bet on England winning 3-0 in Croatia because Theo Walcott was a bit better than I’d ever expected – massive fan of his though I am. How, when I predicted England could do major damage in Zagreb, can it be fair that I win nowt?
That’s the beauty of spread betting for me. Get it wrong and yes, it will cost you. But get it right and you’ll be rewarded for your work.
