More live betting promised by new Hills site
By Angus | December 12, 2008
More live betting opportunities are promised by William Hill’s new website – which puts the famous high-street bookmaker at the forefront of the online betting world.
The new site was launched a week ago and is the result of collaboration between Hills and gambling software company Orbis. It gives the company’s brand a bit of a refresh, but it’s in the under-the-hood techy stuff that cunning punters should get interested.
Live (“in-running”) betting is, for my money, the future. There’s nothing worse in betting terms than having a first goalscorer or correct score bet go for a burton because of an unlikely goal in the opening minutes of a football match.
A bet makes live sport more interesting, especially in the current saccharine atmosphere of the Premier League. It also means you can use your judgement to weigh in when you feel the time is right (ie, waiting for Man United to go a goal down before backing them – a fairly successful way of making a few extra quid compared to an ante-post match bet).
I’m currently watching the India v England cricket match with betlive in front of me and the 4/5 on offer about India is a far cry from the best-priced 1/2 I could have got before the first ball was bowled.
The betlive service means you can stay on top of your bets throughout the ninety minutes (or eighty, if you’re an egg-chaser). And the Orbis technology means that Hills can offer more in-running markets than on their old site – up to the thirty-odd currently promised by Bet365 in their fantastic half-time TV ads starring Bert Kwouk.
More betting news, too
The other great feature of the new Hills set-up is a comprehensive betting news website.
Hills’ team of sports writers offer independent insights into the day’s sporting action – from Champs League footy through to Winmau Darts. The in-depth football statistics service – an information goldmine for the committed punter – seems to have disappeared (it’s still available over at Paddy Power), although I suspect that’s an oversight rather than a permanent decision by the online bookmaker.
