Football betting tip for Saturday 13 September

By Matt | September 12, 2008

Football betting should hopefully get back to normal this weekend after the ridiculous odds-on rubbish of the international game – and we’ve got a cracking free betting tip for this Saturday.

This perm pays up to 15/1 – and 3/1 minimum if one of the selections goes down.

Man U to win
Firstly the big game of the weekend: Liverpool versus Manchester United.

The team news for this afternoon is that Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres are fit to face the Red Devils at Anfield tomorrow lunchtime. I don’t care.

The Reds haven’t scored a league goal against their Lancashire rivals since Danny Murphy scored a penalty way back in April 2004. God only knows when the last time was they scored one in open play.

Since then United have had it all their own way in the Premier League, with a Peter Crouch winner settling an FA Cup tie in the only win Liverpool have managed against Man United. And in those years Man U have got a lot stronger – while Liverpool have got “a bit” better.

I can’t see anything but a Man U win at Anfield, and the 17/10 on Manchester United looks a huge price to me.

Get on Wigan
Meanwhile, elsewhere in Lancashire Steve Bruce is stirring things up at Wigan Athletic who look good value at odds-against to beat another surprisingly in-form side, Sunderland.

Amr Zaki ran riot against Hull City in the Latics last match and, teamed up with Emile Heskey, can score more than once against Sunderland. I’m not sure the Black Cats are strong enough – even with the addition of George McCartney and Anton Ferdinand – to get as much as a point at the JJB.

Sheffield United can add to Tyrone’s pain
Wigan’s old manager, Tyrone off Coronation Street, is having a completely different experience down at Pride Park where Derby County are rooted to the foot of the Championship table.

They face a strong Sheffield United side tomorrow that can add to Tyrone’s pain. Billy Sharp is a proven goalscorer at this level in a squad that I fully expect to be challenging for promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.

Derby fans are notoriously hard on their team when they’re not performing well, and if the Blades get an early goal heads will go down. Odds of 31/20 on Sheffield United look too good to miss.

The way to Oldham
My final selection for this bet is in League One, where John Sheridan’s Oldham Athletic are riding high.
They’ve beaten some good sides along the way – notably outright betting favourites Leeds United – and are in great form at Boundary Park.

Roberto di Matteo’s MK Dons are also in good form – but I fancy the trip north will be where it ends. Lee Hughes is a fitness doubt but my reports suggest he will start the game and I think this set of Latics will be able to out-muscle the Milton Keynes side.

These selections are great odds – but obviously they come with a fair degree of risk. So rather than so a straight accumulator – which would play straight into the bookies’ hands – I’ve permed them; four trebles and a fourfold.

Two points on each bet makes for a ten-point stake; each treble pays at least 30 points in return, plus a further 50 points on the acca.

That means one of the selections can go down and we’ll still make a whopping profit on the bet.
