Great betting odds to be had on Premier League football

By Matt | August 16, 2008

The Premier League returns today and I think there’s great value bets to be had on the first day’s coupon.

Both Manchester United and Chelsea can be had at around 1/3 and fans of short-priced dead-certs will be hoovering that up. I can’t say I’d argue with them. 1/3 looks a great value bet for either.

But you’ll probably want something with a bit longer odds for your football betting tips, so I’ve looked elsewhere for my first treble of the new football season.

My pick of today’s Premier League games has to be new boys Hull City to beat Fulham. Odds of 13/8 are available at both the Tote and Coral.

Fulham will be without new boy Andrew Johnson and the Tigers will be fired up in front of a delirious home crowd.

The cottagers will be lucky to survive this season and a defeat at the KC could set the tone. Without Johnson they’re a Championship side in all but name for my money.

Actually in the Championship, I think Sheffield United are a massive price to beat over-rated QPR at best odds of 13/10 with Coral.

Neither side will be at full strength, with James Beattie probably the biggest name absent, so these sides will be pretty evenly matched – but I fancy home advantage to swing it for the Blades.

Don’t be fooled by their opening day loss to Birmingham. Kevin Blackwell’s Sheffield United will be challenging for promotion this season, and few of their rivals will get anything at St Andrews this year.

Meanwhile the banker of the day must be Leeds United to beat Oldham Athletic. Leeds showed in their first two games of the season that they can score goals for fun this season, and the Latics will do well to keep a clean sheet.

I don’t think they’ll have enough to score at the other end, and think the 4/6 on offer on Leeds at Blue Square could be buying money.

The overall treble pays a touch over 17/2 at BlueSquare, and I’m going to put two points’ worth of my hard-earned on it coming off.
